Maryland Home Addition Experts

Addition

Adding a home addition is a great alternative to moving into a larger home. Importantly, choosing the right Maryland home improvement contractor for your project is vitally important to the project's overall success.

Moreover, Home Additions create the living space that your growing family needs.

There are many reasons for building an addition to your home. For example, your family may need an in-law or primary bedroom suite for aging parents or aging-in-place. Alternatively, perhaps you’re looking for something more original, like a home entertainment room. Whatever your reasons, Merrell Building can design and build the space that meets your needs. Our design team works with you to create additional living space that’s functional, stylish, and beautiful. Most importantly, when the project is complete, the outside of the extra space will appear seamless with your existing home.

Finally, let us help make your dream space possible.

Sunroom Additions

Sunroom Additions

Sunrooms can offer a budget-friendly alternative to a traditional house addition.

Costs for this kind of project depends on the amount of added space, location, extras such as electrical wiring, and whether the room is heated (four-season room) or not heated (three-season room).

Bump-out Additions

Bump-out Additions

A different kind of addition

Bumpouts extend a wall or a couple of walls, to provide additional square footage without building an entirely new room. You aren’t adding an entire home addition, so really take the time to consider what you’re getting.

A bump out of two or three feet might not seem like a lot, but to the owner of a small kitchen, the additional 20-30 square feet makes an amazing difference.

Let us help you with any home addition project your considering, including:
In-law Suites:

Rather than one cramped shared space, add onto your home, creating separate areas. An in-law addition, subsequently, focuses on meeting a family’s needs and focuses on aging in place.

Ensuite Master Bedroom Addition
Ensuites:

Popular since the 1950s, ensuites are bathrooms that connect to a bedroom. An ensuite bathroom can range from a half bath to a full bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub! Sometimes, a large closet in an older home may be converted into a bathroom to create an ensuite.

Your master suite is your zone. Given this, privacy, proximity, and convenience make the ensuite popular. We make sure it has all the right stuff – storage, light, counter space, walk-in closets, make-up counters, shower enclosure—everything you need for comfort.

Garages:

Are you considering adding a garage to your home? Whether you need one car or two, extra storage, laundry space, work or hobby area, or even extra living space, a garage can be a valuable addition to your property.

Originally designed to replace the carriage house and meant to protect the automobile, garages have come a long way. Today, they can serve multiple purposes. However, it is important to ensure that the garage addition fits seamlessly with the design of your home. Moreover, the added garage space should provide the storage and security you need for your peace of mind.

Kitchen Bump-out Addition
Kitchen & Dining Space:

The kitchen is often the centerpiece of a home, acting as a gathering place for family and friends. Gaining a larger kitchen can easily be achieved with a full addition or a bump-out addition. A bump-out addition takes less time to build while adding space only to the area where you need it. However, whether opting for a full addition or a bump-out addition, Merrell Building can help you achieve:

  • more function
  • added storage
  • increase home value
Sunroom Addition
Sunrooms:

If you’re looking for a way to combine indoor and outdoor living, look no further. Our designers will help you create spaces in your home that allow you to enjoy all four seasons and use the natural light to its fullest potential in your home.

ART STUDIO

Art Studio

One of the things that gets in the way of making art is not having an art space.

Create a space with natural light that is both pleasing to the eye and matches the feel of the existing home.

POOL ROOM

Pool Room

So many benefits to gain from an exercise/pool-room addition:

– Enjoy aquatic exercises: swimming, aerobics, rowing, and walking

– Therapeutic relief for aches and pains

– Best of all, quality time with the whole family while staying fit

Our Process

Consultation & Design

We are a design/build company, which means we manage the project from beginning to end.

Every home addition project starts with a free in-home consultation with the owner, Moses Merrell.  During the meeting, he will listen to your desired plan and budget for the project.  Importantly, Mr. Merrell will help identify your style, offer advice on materials, and work with you to create a realistic budget. Then, he’ll discuss a plan to bring your vision to life.

Design Process

If you choose to enter into a design agreement with Merrell Building, the next step is the design phase.

This phase typically takes about two to three weeks. During this phase, clients work closely with our architect to create building plans and 3D renderings. Several revision meetings take place to make sure there are no surprises with the final design. In the end, our client will have a final schematic diagram, including floor plans, elevations, & 3D imaging.

Construction

Once the plans are complete, the next step of the home addition project is the building agreement.

The agreement is highly detailed to ensure there is no confusion. Together, our team and client will review the scope of work in detail. Then, we schedule a pre-construction walk-through. At that time, we discuss an initial schedule, working hours, material storage, hauling off debris, and other essential items.

Before construction, clients receive their “To-Do” list. The list details the client’s responsibilities, for example, material selection due dates.  Clients also receive our preferred vendor information.  We connect with well-respected companies to supply our customers with top-notch, quality materials.  Our team exclusively works with suppliers who have consistent, high-quality products, and excellent customer service.

Throughout Maryland – Baltimore County, Carroll County, Frederick County, Howard County, Merrell Building can help transform your home.
